In Hindu calendar, it’s said that on this day moon shower “Amrit” (elixir which is believed to be more immortal) Thus we Hindu celebrate Sharad Purnima and make payasam or Kheer with milk and different types of ingredients. This sweet dish is kept under the moonlight whole night to shower amrit by moon. Next day kheer or payasam is consumed.
