The Worst Fashion Ideas |
Fashion trends; an ever-rotating wardrobe of unique designs,
eye-catching patterns and ideas that we live to regret. Getting our hands on
the latest trends can make us feel the height of fashion. Fast-forward a few
years or a decade or two and our most prized fashion pieces often become the
cause for a ‘cringe’ induced headache.
With the regret sinking in our stomachs we live in hope that nobody ever comes across the dreaded photo albums that emphasise our fashion disasters. Listed below are the top 5 worst fashion ideas in history; however don’t worries if you previously loved any of the fashion pieces listed below, I won’t hold it against you!

Hypercolour T-shirts
The Worst Fashion Ideas |
If you were around in the late 80s’ and early 90s’ you’ll remember the
craze for Hypercolor t-shirts. For those of you who don’t know, that these
lovely Hypercolor t-shirts were a novelty garment that change its colour when
exposed to heat. This meant that by touching your t-shirt you would leave an
imprint of your hand - pretty impressive, that is until you start to think
about it in more depth. To me heat-sensitive clothing screams: what if you get
hot and sweaty and everyone can see the effects? In my books, that doesn’t
sound like a fashionable look! Hypercolor t-shirts were also easily damaged if washed;
the heat from the washing machine would often leave the shirts useless. For
these reasons, Hypercolor t-shirts have made it onto my list of the top 5 worst
fashion ideas in history.
Crocs
The Worst Fashion Ideas |
Crocs. Crocs. Crocs. They’re shower shoes that you wear in public. This
shoe is very comfortable; friends in my life I have never heard the phrase
“Fashion Is Comfort” and for this reason nobody will ever be able to pull off a
pair of plastic clogs. Crocs were originally designed as a ‘spa shoe’ in 2002,
however in 2006 sales of Crocs rocketed and they soon became a fashion
must-have, with celebrities such as Adam Sandler, P Diddy and Angelina Jolie
falling victim to the rubber hoof.
Velour Tracksuits
Velour tracksuits. Where to start? Yes they are comfy but this does
not mean that they should be worn in public. Tracksuits were originally
designed as sportswear and that is where they should stay. However, with the
fashion company Juicy Couture introducing their signature velour tracksuits
they soon became a fashion statement. In the late 90s’ and early 00s’ it would
be impossible to walk through an airport without spotting a glammed up girl in
a velour tracksuit; a must-have in expensive airport wear. As this fashion
trend developed velour tracksuits then became bedazzled with diamantes and
jewels . All I can say is, an outfit made out of towels should never be worn.
Invisible Bra Straps
The Worst Fashion Ideas |
In my mind the word invisible means ‘unable to be seen’; however, even though I’ve got pretty awful
eyesight I can always see an invisible bra strap. You may think you’ve worked your way around a
strapless or halter neck top, but you haven’t. The shiny plastic strap is there
for the world to see and there’s no getting around it. All I can say is why not
try a strapless bra instead?
Shell Suits
The Worst Fashion Ideas |
The shell suit is a bizarre fashion faux pas. Based on the tracksuit,
the matching brightly coloured polyester trouser and jacket combination soared
in popularity during the 80s’ and early 90s’. All manner or garish shell suit
designs and colours hit the shops, if a variety of fluorescent colours were
thrown together, if you’re whole outfit clashed and if you matched members of
your family it really didn’t matter! A shell suit donned figure is not a good one;
nobody wants to look like a cross between marshmallow and hot air balloon. Therefore, this trend that allowed people who
never did any exercise to look as if they did should stay banned… forever.
